Ever wonder what that famous picture of Kim Kardashian with the blood spread around her face was all about? Well, I’ll tell you! That was what became microneedling in conjunction with Platelet-Rich Plasma or more commonly known as PRP, creating the popular “Vampire Facial.”
PRP is produced from a person’s own blood. It is made up of a solution of plasma and platelets where the platelet concentration is higher than whole blood. Platelets and the liquid plasma portions of the blood are comprised of fundamental actions of the body including the ability to migrate to a site of injury. Platelets are known to release a variety of elements further initiating and stimulating repair.
So how is this done? A small blood sample is taken from the person undergoing treatment and the vials are then placed inside of a device called a centrifuge that spins the blood at a high speed. This process has the capability of separating the platelets from other blood components. The concentration of platelets is then injected into the area of the person’s body that needs to be treated whether it is the face for wrinkle or acne scar treatment, a joint for an injury, or the scalp for patterned hair loss. Hey, you can even add the blood to your face and call yourself Dracula…wink, wink.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) will stimulate new cell growth in the area of the body wherever it is injected. It is that simple. It helps the body heal itself through a natural process without any artificial means, chemicals, or unfamiliar bodies.
